Are you an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) seeking a role where you can truly make a difference? As the Head Veterinary Nurse, you will be at the heart of the practice, driving clinical excellence and fostering a positive, supportive culture. Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the nursing team through hands‑on clinical work
  • Mentor and develop nurses, student nurses, VCAs, and support staff
  • Identify training needs and create opportunities for professional growth
  • Conduct regular nursing team meetings and one‑to‑one check‑ins
  • Support appraisals, performance reviews, and development plans
  • Produce and manage nursing rotas to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Monitor workflow and resource allocation across the practice
  • Maintain high clinical, professional, and infection control standards
  • Support the implementation and review of clinical protocols and SOPs
  • Work alongside leadership to drive continual improvement within the practice
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and accountability

Skills and experience:

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
  • Minimum 5 years' post‑qualification nursing experience
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or senior nursing experience
  • Experience working within a busy small animal practice
  • Strong anaesthetic, surgical, and inpatient nursing skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities
  • Experience producing and managing staff rotas
  • Clinical Coach qualification (desirable)
  • Experience with nurse consultations and schedule utilisation (desirable)
  • Experience implementing clinical protocols and SOPs (desirable)
  • Previous involvement in recruitment, appraisals, or performance management (desirable)
