An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, experienced six-vet equine-only team based in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. This role becomes available as a valued colleague moves on in the New Year, offering the chance to step into a close-knit, collaborative and genuinely supportive team.

The successful candidate will enjoy a predominantly ambulatory, first-opinion caseload, supported by shared out-of-hours emergency cover on a 1-in-5 rota. The work is varied and rewarding, with a mix of routine and more complex medical and surgical cases. Support is a real strength of this role. Day-to-day work is backed by an equine nursing assistant, an outpatient clinic, and a highly organised team including:

  • Out-of-hours nurses who manage emergency calls
  • Experienced receptionists who help keep the day running smoothly
  • Access to an in-house laboratory for fast, reliable diagnostics

This structure allows vets to focus on clinical work while feeling well supported at all times.

The team fosters a culture of true clinical freedom within a collaborative environment. The veterinary team includes certificate holders and colleagues with special interests across dentistry, orthopaedics, imaging and internal medicine, creating an excellent learning environment. When additional expertise is required, the practice works closely with visiting referral specialists, ensuring high clinical standards while maintaining continuity of care. Work–life balance is genuinely valued. Generous time off in lieu allows vets to properly recharge and enjoy everything the area has to offer — including the stunning Jurassic Coast, right on the doorstep.

This role would suit a confident, approachable equine vet who enjoys building strong client relationships and is keen to develop their own clinical interests. Applications are welcomed from experienced clinicians as well as confident recent graduates ready for their next step.

The practice is well equipped with modern diagnostics and treatment tools, including:

  • Digital radiography
  • Orthopaedic and reproduction ultrasound scanners
  • High-quality endoscopy, including gastroscopy
  • Advanced dental equipment (power burrs, Karl-Storz endoscope, Pegasos extraction tools)
  • Sleip Lameness Locator

Benefits include:

  • 6.6 weeks paid annual leave, including bank holidays
  • £1,750 CPD allowance per year with structured training support
  • Health and wellbeing scheme covering treatments from dentistry to sports massage
  • RCVS membership paid, plus two additional professional subscriptions
  • VDS cover
  • Enhanced family leave policies
  • Discounted veterinary fees
  • Employee discount and cashback platform
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Company sick pay
  • Annual pay reviews
  • Strong focus on wellbeing
  • Clear career progression opportunities
  • Access to a wide learning hub and specialist support network
  • Visa sponsorship

Dorset offers an outstanding lifestyle, combining rolling countryside, dramatic coastline and excellent outdoor pursuits. It’s an ideal location for vets looking to balance a fulfilling career with quality time outside of work.
