An exciting opportunity has arisen at Taverham Veterinary Hospital to take on four additional Animal Nursing Assistants. These positions will include a variety of job roles supporting the nursing and reception team at both Taverham Vets, Bure Valley Vets in Aylsham and Longwater Lane Vets in Costessey. We are seeking successful candidates to start at the beginning of February 2026.

There is the potential that this role could lead on to successful applicants completing their nurse training in the future. Each candidate will be evaluated prior to this decision depending on their progression in their current role.

Job duties

  • Preparing theatre for morning surgery
  • Cleaning and sterilising surgical instruments
  • Prepping animals for surgery, assisting nurses with moving into theatre
  • Running blood and urine samples
  • Restraining a range of animals for bloods and catheter placement
  • Assisting the inpatient nurse with recovering patients coming out of theatre
  • Reception work: taking phone calls, arranging appointments, advising and helping clients, taking payments and working in the pharmacy
  • Branch surgery work, assisting with hydro and cattery

Our hospital status practice is home to a brand new CT scanner, dental suite, new and improved canine kennels, ISFM gold standard cat kennels, dedicated isolation facilities and four operating theatres. Within the hospital our team regularly perform ultrasonography, cardiology and orthopaedic surgeries. Longwater Lane is a one‑vet branch surgery offering personal and high‑quality services including surgical procedures and an in‑house laboratory. The practice is also home to a luxury veterinary‑led cattery and an excellent hydrotherapy and physiotherapy service. The practices are based in the peaceful towns of Taverham and Costessey, just 15 minutes from the historic city of Norwich and less than an hour from some of the best beaches the UK has to offer!

Role requirements

  • A full driving license
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and be part of a busy team
  • Able to carry out individual tasks set
  • Be able to communicate with clients
  • Competent maths skills
  • No restricting allergies to animals
  • A‑C GCSE in Maths, Science and English ARE REQUIRED, and proof will be required at interview

Your shift pattern

Working pattern includes 1 in 3 weekends and a variety of weekday shifts on a rotating schedule. Shifts include early (7 am-3:30 pm), late (11:30 am-8 pm), and standard day shifts (8 am-4:30 pm, 8:30 am-5 pm, 9 am-5:30 pm) across a rolling six‑week rota. The schedule also includes participation in a rota for three Bank Holidays per year.
