Description Expectations & Responsibilities

Coaches play a crucial role in the development of any sport and in the lives of the performers they coach. Good coaches ensure participants have positive experiences and are therefore likely to continue in their sport and achieve their potential. As a coach, we expect you to facilitate and contribute towards the growth and development of both individual participants and collective teams. We expect you to put the students at the heart of everything you do to maximise their enjoyment, participation and development. We expect coaches to deliver sport specific sessions, which meet the needs of those student athletes participating in club sessions. In accordance with Sport England, BUCS & NGB guidelines, we expect coaches to plan, implement, analyse and revise suitable coaching programmes.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Plan and lead weekly sessions that are appropriate for all individuals and the environment.
  • Lead team selection and attend competitive fixtures to support the team.
  • Support individual player development through a range of coaching styles and feedback mechanisms that meet the needs of the student athletes.
  • Contribute to a positive coaching culture within Sport Brighton.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Best Practice and Wellbeing in line with Sport Brighton guidelines.
  • Work with a student committee, other coaches and Sport Brighton to create an accessible and inclusive environment.
  • Actively support departmental goals and help students understand the value of sport at university.

There may be additional responsibilities included in specific roles; however, this will be communicated to you prior to the role.
