Salary: £16.18 per hour

Description: DMUsport Coaches will deliver expert tuition to the university’s student clubs and support the delivery of the DMUsport player pathway. The role involves developing working relationships with internal and external partners to benefit the club, students and the university.

Hours: Friday 17:30‑19:00 (times subject to change). Fixtures occur on Wednesdays during term time, with 2 hours for home and 4 hours for away fixtures (time to be determined due to opposition and facility availability). Average hours per week during term time, including coaching, administration and competitions, is 5.2.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert tuition to the university’s student club.
  • Support and guide the club committee to improve participation numbers and to grow the depth of competitive sport.
  • Deliver practical day‑to‑day coaching and devise and implement long‑term and short‑term development plans.
  • Attend all training sessions and fixtures/matches.
  • Analyse and report on the club’s performance.
  • Ensure health and safety policies and best practice are adhered to.
  • Promote student support services and engage in opportunities for CPD relating to student welfare.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant colleagues, including DSU staff, sports clubs and staff responsible for university leisure facilities.
  • Promote sport at DMU, to current and prospective students and the public.
  • Attend meetings and events as required, sometimes outside core hours.
  • Support other projects to meet departmental objectives.
  • Treat all DMU staff, students, contractors and visitors with dignity and respect.

Skills and Experience:

  • Level 1 (or equivalent) qualification, working towards Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience coaching a relevant sport at an intermediate level.
  • Experience developing athletes’ understanding of coaching styles and practical delivery.
  • Ability to manage people and programmes, ensuring delivery against objectives.
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to write reports or assessments and contribute to meetings as required.
  • Ability to work outside normal core hours.
