City St George's Students' Union is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Men's Basketball Coach to lead and develop our Men's Basketball Club during the 2026/27 academic year. The successful candidate will work closely with the student committee, team captains, and Students' Union staff to deliver high-quality coaching that supports both individual player development and team performance.
The coach will play a key role in helping the club build on recent successes and compete effectively within BUCS competition. The role includes planning and delivering structured training sessions, developing technical and tactical understanding, supporting player progression, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven team culture. The coach will also be expected to assist with squad management, match preparation, and performance review where appropriate.
Applicants should hold a recognised basketball coaching qualification and have experience coaching players of varying abilities within a club, community, university, or performance environment. The ability to motivate student-athletes, communicate effectively, and create an engaging learning environment is essential.
The team trains at CitySport, 124 Goswell Road, London EC1V 7DP, on Mondays from 8:30pm–10:00pm. The coach will be responsible for planning and delivering structured and engaging training sessions that develop players' technical, tactical and physical performance, while fostering a positive, inclusive and competitive environment.
The Men's Basketball Club currently competes in both BUCS (1st Team) and LUSL (2nd Team) competitions. Matches typically take place on Wednesdays (BUCS) and Saturdays (LUSL). Coaches may be invited to attend fixtures; however, attendance and payment for match-day support will be agreed separately on a pre-arranged ad-hoc basis.
The coach will be expected to uphold the Students' Union's values, promote participant welfare and inclusion, and deliver all activity in accordance with relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and governing body requirements.
