Description:
Imperial Athletes delivers student sport at Imperial College London and is made up of 5000 students across 55 different sports. Part of that programme is our performance sport offer which includes 50 scholarship athletes and a select number of performance teams. These high performing students are competing in both the highest BUCS leagues and on the international stage. The purpose of this role is to assist with the delivery of the strength and conditioning program to our performance athletes and teams. As part of the placement you will also be given the opportunity to undertake the UKSCA Strength & Conditioning trainer award which will give you an industry recognised strength and conditioning qualification you will be able to utilise straight away.
Responsibilities:
- 10+ hrs/week S&C shadowing & coaching with performance teams and individual scholars
- Industry-recognised UKSCA Strength & Conditioning Trainer Award
- Regular athlete testing, data evaluation, interpretation & informed decision-making
- Developing athlete programmes from regular testing, evaluation & athlete feedback
- Leading sessions under supervision once comfortable with the facility & programme
- Comprehensive in-house CPD delivered by multi-disciplinary practitioners & guest speakers
- Mentoring from the performance sport manager & Senior S&C Coach β weekly meetings & regular observation/feedback
- Guidance & mentoring toward UKSCA accreditation, if required
- Observe disciplines such as physio, sports rehab & club development
- Flexible exposure to equipment management, gym health & safety and other student-sport areas
Person specification:
ESSENTIAL:
- A graduate from a sports science, coaching or related background
- A genuine passion and drive to pursue a career in sports performance
- Available and able to commit for the full academic year (Oct 2026 β Jun 2027)
- Willing and committed to complete the UKSCA S&C Trainer qualification
- Flexible to work unsociable hours, including early mornings
- Professional, organised and polite, with a strong work ethic and genuine passion for learning
DESIRABLE:
- Prior experience with weight lifting and general athletic movements (running, jumping, throwing)
- Some experience coaching or leading sessions in a team or sports setting
- Familiarity with athlete testing, monitoring or data tools
- A relevant coaching, gym-instructor or first-aid qualification
Our programme is flexible so we may be able to offer exposure to other opportunities once in place such as equipment management, gym health and safety and other areas within student sport. To support you during this placement we offer up to Β£600 travel reimbursement per term which can be claimed back through a simple form, part funding for CPD courses, and ongoing 1-1 mentoring as well as branded kit to wear while coaching. The chosen candidates will need to be ready for the start of the academic year which commences at the start of October 2026.
