American Football – Lead Therapis (MRes) American Football – Lead Therapis (MRes) Details Closing date: 19 June 2025 Location: Leeds Region: Yorkshire Employment type: Contract Salary: Fees Funded MRes Description The Therapist Role The successful candidate will support the players and the coaching team during the 2025-26 BUCS Division season by providing training and game-day medical support, alongside the completion of a full-time MRes qualification. As an integral part of the Leeds Beckett American Football Team, you will be expected to attend a minimum of 1 training session per week, which will act as injury prevention and management sessions, and will also provide medical cover for all home and away fixtures (~8 fixtures). Games take place on Saturdays and Sundays with training sessions taking place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The time commitment for this role will be 10-15 hours per week, including away fixture travel. You will also be required to mentor and support a small team of Sport and Exercise Therapy placement students. The Team Therapist will be remunerated to cover the University’s course fees – subject to fulfilling the role required. The MRes Project Conducting research on British American football is essential to understand its development within the UK\’s sporting landscape. This sport represents a cultural hybrid, blending traditional American football elements with British amateur sports culture, leading to a distinctive identity that warrants academic exploration. There is currently an absence of injury epidemiology data available on British American football cohorts. Furthermore, little is known about the impact of injury on athletic identify prior to, during or after injury. Such information is important to inform strategies to enhance the sport\’s growth, participation, and integration within the UK\’s diverse athletic environment. The primary aim of the project will be to report training and match injury prevalence in a cohort of British American football players competing in the BUCS National League. The secondary aim is to understand how athletic identity is influenced by injury occurrence in a cohort of American Footballers. The Candidate We would welcome applications from individuals with the following qualifications, skills, and abilities: • A BSc or MSc qualification in Sports and Exercise Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation or Physiotherapy. • Graduate membership of one of the following organisations: The Society of Sports Therapists (SST), The British Association of Sports Rehabilitators (BASRaT), The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) and possess professional indemnity insurance. • A formal Sports Trauma qualification that is endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care. • Available to be present at no less than 1 training session (minimum of 1 evening per week) and all weekend fixtures (Saturdays and Sundays) throughout the 2025-26 BUCS season (up to 13 fixtures between October to May). • Ability to mentor and support Sports Therapy undergraduate students whilst on placement. • Ability to integrate into a team environment. • Maintain secure medical records and ensure the completion of all appropriate records.
