Description
The LSBU Basketball Club is a vibrant and growing student club that brings together athletes of all experience levels to compete, improve, and enjoy the sport. The club trains weekly and competes in BUCS & LUSL fixtures throughout the academic year, with ambitions to strengthen performance, increase membership, and build a positive team culture. For the 25/26 season our womens programme will be placed into a development year with key focus on building a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring increased membership numbers and engagement.
In this role, you will be working with a diverse and committed group of students during term time (September 2025 to March 2026), leading weekly training sessions and contributing to the overall development of the club. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of Basketball at LSBU, fostering growth, competitiveness, and a strong club identity on and off the pitch.
Contract Period: Term time, September 2025 and March 2026
Training Time: 3.5-5 hours/week, Mondays 5pm-7pm & Fridays 5:30-7pm @ LSBU Active Sports Centre
• Minimum Level 1 Basketball Coaching Qualification Desirable
• Experience within university sport or student sport environments

Key Responsibilities:
1. To work alongside the Sport Development team and Club leadership to set appropriate development and performance goals for the club and create a plan on how to meet these goals.
2. To plan and deliver high quality training sessions for the Basketball club that will ensure the development of all players and progress towards the set goals.
4. To ensure a consistent approach and coaching philosophy across all sessions.
5. To maintain regular communication with the club leadership group and Sports Development staff throughout the season.
6. In consultation with the club leadership group to support with team selection including determining a selection process and providing feedback to those not selected.
7. To adhere to LSBU Active’s Coaching Code of Conduct and the relevant NGB guidelines and regulations.
8. To be responsible for the safety of all participants including ensuring the safe use of equipment.
9. To encourage a participation ethic and environment that encourages high attendance at training sessions.
10. To report and to meet with Senior Development Officer twice a year to discuss the club and training.
11. Where appropriate, to support the work of the club leader and Sport Development team
12. Any other duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Sports Development Officer
13. To support club members to increase club membership levels where possible
14. Support with monitoring of student attendance at training sessions
