Start Your Journey with the British Transport Police (BTP). BTP have a unique opportunity for two Police Constables to join our Driver Training Unit as Police Driving Instructor in Central London. BTP police and protect 10,000 miles of track and 3,000 railway stations every day – a network that is at the heart of Britain’s community, commerce and industry. Join us and you’ll be providing specialist policing to a unique community in a unique environment, dealing with rewarding challenges that you won’t find in any other Force.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the British Transport Police maintains full legal compliance and operational readiness by delivering high-quality driver training in line with national legislation, College of Policing standards, and NPCC guidance. The post is responsible for planning, designing, and delivering a range of driver training courses, assessing and accrediting police officers and staff, and ensuring all training activities meet safety, legislative, and strategic requirements. By maintaining training vehicles, conducting thorough assessments, managing risk, and supporting continued professional development, the role plays a vital part in sustaining BTP’s operational capability and upholding the highest standards of police driving.

Initial Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a current or former officer from a Home Office Police Force, Police Scotland, PSNI or BTP. Transferees must be substantive in rank and have completed probation. Re‑joiners must apply within 12 months of leaving and have been substantive in rank. Must have lived in the UK for the past 3 consecutive years. No live misconduct warnings or performance issues. Cannot be under current investigation by another force. No active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy. We do not accept applications from those dismissed from another force.

Role Specific Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a current accredited CoP Police Driving Instructor or Police Driver Trainer. They must hold the Level 4 CET or TEP module 1-3 Teaching qualification. They must hold a recognised assessor qualification such as A1 Assessor or TEP 5 assessor. They must hold Initial Phase Pursuit, Hollow Pointed Tyre Deflation System and Tactical Phase Pursuit qualifications. They must be highly organised, remain calm in pressured situations and have good communication/interpersonal skills as well as experience assessing students and providing effective feedback. It is desirable for applicants to be a registered DVLA ADI.
