Overview

British Transport Police (BTP) have an exciting opportunity for a PIP2 qualified Detective Inspector to join our Covert Investigations policing team as Dedicated Source Unit (DSU) Controller. BTP police and protect 10,000 miles of track and 3,000 railway stations every day – a network that is at the heart of Britain’s community, commerce and industry. You will be providing specialist policing to a unique community in a unique environment, dealing with rewarding challenges that you won’t find in any other Force.

The successful candidate will supervise the day-to-day activities of the Dedicated Source Unit, managing both Source Handlers and Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) to ensure thorough and targeted intelligence gathering in line with the National Intelligence Model. This role is based in Birmingham but the postholder will be required to travel across our Wales and Western subdivision. For more information, please download the role profile below.

Initial Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be a current or former officer from a Home Office Police Force, Police Scotland, or PSNI
  • Transferees must be substantive in rank and have completed probation
  • Re-joiners must apply within 2 years of leaving and have been substantive in rank
  • Must have lived in the UK for the past 5 consecutive years
  • No live misconduct warnings or performance issues
  • Cannot be under current investigation by another force
  • No active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy
  • We do not accept applications from those dismissed from another force

Role Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be PIP2 qualified
  • Must be a trained Controller by a College of Policing approved course

Ideally candidates will have Security Clearance but this can be obtained through the BTP vetting process.
