A Swim Instructor at British Swim School teaches swim lessons to children and adults, starting at 3 months old using our fun, gentle and progressive methods. You will receive extensive training to build your confidence and ability to work with a variety of swimmers and abilities. Having fun and interacting with our swimmers is an important part of the role! A strong focus is placed on providing survival swim techniques living out the British Swim School mission and making a big impact on decreasing drowning.
This role requires effective communication skills, patience, and the ability to motivate students to achieve their swimming goals.
Your Typical Responsibilities:
- Report directly to and support the Aquatics Manager
- Follow British Swim Schools curriculum to ensure safe and competent lessons and environment.
- Work Mon, Wed and Thur from 3pm-7pm), and Saturdays from 8am- 12pm
- Maintain certifications throughout employment.
- Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 5 consecutive hours.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to develop engaging lesson plans and activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool area before, during, and after lessons.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, equivalent, or in the process of completion.
- Enthusiastic personality.
- Comfortable in and around the water. Strong swimming skills are a plus but can be taught and developed!
- Must maintain certifications throughout the length of employment.
- Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with children.
- Swimming experience: 1-2 years preferred but not required.
- Customer service skills: 1 year preferred.
- Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification(s) preferred (but can be obtained during training)
- Skills in childcare or experience working with children in sports coaching or educational settings are highly valued.
Compensation: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour

While we teach swimming to people of all ages and abilities, most of our students are preschool and elementary-aged kids. Our instructors should like working with this age group and be good at making parents feel comfortable. It\’s helpful if you have experience with children or in a child-focused job, but it\’s not required if you can show the right attitude. The job comes with specialized training in our advanced and unique British Swim School approach.
We also have exciting opportunities with our Customer Service Team, even if you\’re not in the pool. These are the people committed to providing the best service in the industry. In these roles, you might talk to parents on the phone or by the pool. Wherever you are, the aim is to make everyone feel like part of the British Swim School Family as we focus on ensuring the “Survival of the Littlest.”
