Clinical Medical Provision: Run scheduled medical clinics and provide appropriate assessment, first aid and care for students, Group Leaders and staff. Manage minor illness and injury within your competence, identify deterioration or significant conditions, and upscale or refer promptly when further medical assessment is required.

Medication Management: Manage prescribed and over-the-counter medication in line with BSS policy and medical guidance. Ensure safe storage, administration, stock checking and disposal, maintain an accurate audit trail, and record any controlled medication in accordance with applicable requirements.

Medical Information & Care Plans: Review and maintain medical forms, care plans, allergies and dietary information. Share relevant details with appropriate staff on a need-to-know basis.

First Aid & Emergency Response: Respond promptly to accidents and medical emergencies, provide first aid within your competence, follow BSS procedures and ensure appropriate escalation and follow-up.

Unwell Students: Monitor and care for unwell or injured students, completing regular checks and escalating any deterioration. Keep the Welfare Manager and House Parents informed of care arrangements.

Clinical Records & Confidentiality: Record assessments, treatment, medication, accidents and referrals accurately on the BSS database. Maintain confidentiality and share information only when appropriate.

Communication & Handover: Liaise with parents, agents, Head Office, House Parents and healthcare providers as required. Ensure clear, timely communication and handover of care.

Allergies & Dietary Requirements: Coordinate with Welfare and catering teams on allergies and special diets. Ensure students have access to required inhalers, adrenaline auto-injectors and other lifesaving medication.

Medical Equipment & Supplies: Maintain medical equipment and stock levels, keeping the medical room secure and organised. Check and restock First Aid bags as required.

Student Arrivals & Departures: Support check-in and check-out by verifying medical information, medication and emergency contacts. Record new declarations and return personal medication at departure.

External Healthcare & Referrals: Arrange or accompany referrals to GPs, urgent care or A&E when required. Keep managers informed and record treatment outcomes and follow-up.

Welfare & Safeguarding: Provide compassionate support and work with the Welfare Team. Recognise, record and report safeguarding concerns promptly in line with BSS procedures.

Health & Safety: Follow relevant Health & Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments, including safe handling and storage of medical products. Report hazards promptly.

Out of Hours Emergencies: Respond swiftly and appropriately to any incidents or emergencies that occur during the night, following BSS’s policies to protect the safety and welfare of all students, group leaders and staff.

Student Transfers (If required): To undertake student transfers courteously and efficiently, adhering to all timings and procedures to deliver a professional, high-quality welcome and departure service that ensures minimal waiting times and a positive first and last impression of the school.

Centre Requirements: To help ensure that the centre is set up effectively and packed away as required by the Head Office team. All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Managing Director.

This responsibility extends to all staff, both on and off duty. As part of this commitment, all employees undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and full employment reference checks are conducted prior to commencement of employment.

  • JOB ROLE: Medical Officer
  • KEY PURPOSE OF JOB: To be the main contact in the boarding house, ensuring students' safety and emotional well-being and responding to any concerns in the appropriate manner.
  • REPORTING TO: Welfare Manager & Centre Manager
  • HOURS: Variable shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Working hours will vary depending on the requirements of each centre and the operational needs of the Summer School. An example of a Morning shift could be 08:00 – 18:00.
  • SALARY: £780.42 per week + 12.07% Holiday Pay Total weekly pay £874.62 (Including Holiday Pay)
  • Accommodation Deduction: An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will be deducted for those staff that are residential.
