Salary Range £60,000.00 to £65,000.00 • Management Grade • Contract: Fixed term contract until Sept 2025 • Location: Bury St Edmunds Following some internal moves to support engineering projects at our Bury St Edmunds site, an opportunity has been created for a fixed term contract as a Welding Engineer until Sept 2025. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced technical pressure systems Welding Engineer to join our Engineering Support team. You will report to the Engineering Support Manager and act as the site SME (subject matter expert) for PSSR welding repairs to steam and liquid handling systems at site. You will have a detailed understanding of construction and repairs to industrial steam handling equipment including large industrial boilers and the necessary statutory requirements under PSSR. Key Accountabilities Include: Act as the site subject matter expert for all pressure systems welding repairs. Conduct quality control and assessment of contractor welding repair specifications to ensure compliant and effective repairs and modifications under PSSR. Take responsibility for coordination and management of Statutory and Mandatory compliance topics. Specifically PSSR (pressure systems), and assist with LOLER (lifting equipment) and LEV (ventilation) equipment. Develop technical specifications to support the repair of routine and non-routine breakdowns on site. Interpret business-wide standards and policy and ensure that they are understood and applied appropriately at site level and deliver legal compliance. Support the learning and development of the site production teams through the provision of coaching and mentoring to ensure that they are fully equipped to deliver their objectives with regards to PSSR and British Sugar standards. Demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively. Lead by example by role-modelling the British Sugar Values and behaviours. What are we looking for? Knowledge and Qualifications Extensive experience working with welding on large industrial pressure system equipment. Good understanding of coded welding on pressure systems for modifications and repairs. Extensive engineering experience within British Sugar or similar heavy industrial industry. Skills & Abilities: A proven ability to manage complex and conflicting requirements in a multi-site environment Effective influencing and negotiating skills Effective communication skills to influence at all levels across a site. Passion to succeed with a desire to broaden knowledge and experience Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical colleagues Coaching and mentoring skills along with a focus on continuous improvement Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
