British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world. Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. We, in turn, make this into over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets.
Our factories are the bedrock of our business and are embarking on a period of significant transformational change. As part of that we have moved towards a new operating model that includes Autonomous Production Units (APU) and we are looking to recruit the leader of our Energy APU.
The APU Leader – Energy, will report to the Site General Manager and be a key role within our Site APU Leadership Team. You will lead the Energy team to deliver all aspects of operational performance and encourage and create an environment where autonomy and decision making happens at the right level within the team.
What are we looking for in you? This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has knowledge and previous experience of managing a CHP/High Pressure Boiler and the ability to lead, develop and motivate a team. You will have a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Electrical engineering with proven experience of managing large operational and maintenance budgets, whilst ensuring engineering reliability and compliance.
Key areas of Focus:- Responsible for successful CHP compliance and operations activities from Gas consumption to electricity and High Pressure steam (45bar) generation and air services and Boiler water treatment at Newark site.
- Responsibility for the delivery of the site improvement programmes for performance increase - through people, plant and process.
- Holds operational responsibility for 'contract management and negotiation' with Gas suppliers, working with the energy and procurement teams.
- Efficient use of £6M fuel and generation of 10MW electricity and sales of £0.5M electricity.
- Line management, coaching and development of the Energy APU team.
- Responsible for the compliance and operational maintenance of the plant, through effective asset management and delivery.
- Ensure the Standards applied within the Autonomous Production Unit (APU) deliver audit ready levels at all times and housekeeping is maintained and owned.
