What you need to know about the role Responsible for the operational performance, reliability and continual improvement of a multi-site network, this role combines hands-on support with involvement in project delivery, solution design and network optimisation.
You will work closely with vendors and partners, providing technical assurance and constructive challenge, while contributing to the design and evolution of network solutions to ensure they are fit for purpose, secure and deliver value to the business, working alongside specialist security and firewall resources where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support the organisation’s multi-site network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance and security.
- Diagnose and resolve network incidents and problems, taking ownership through to resolution and root cause analysis.
- Plan and implement network changes, upgrades and improvements in line with change control processes.
- Support the delivery of network-related projects, working with internal teams and third-party partners.
- Define and maintain network standards, documentation and best practices, ensuring consistency and maintainability.
- Monitor network capacity, performance and resilience across LAN, WAN and wireless infrastructure, proactively identifying risks and areas for optimisation.
- Contribute to and influence network solution design, reviewing and challenging vendor proposals to ensure they are secure, supportable and aligned to standards.
- Work in partnership with dedicated firewall and security engineers, ensuring network and security designs are aligned and operationally effective.

Essential
- Strong experience supporting multi-site enterprise network environments
- Solid knowledge of routing, switching, VPNs and network security
- Hands-on Aruba and Cisco (switching & wireless) + Clear Pass NAC
- Good understanding of firewall technologies (Palo Alto, Fortinet) and integration
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis ability
- Experience implementing controlled changes (ITIL environments)
- Experience reviewing, interpreting and contributing to network designs and standards, with confidence to challenge vendors
- Strong documentation skills (diagrams, standards, procedures)
- Understanding of monitoring, performance and capacity management
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies and modern network architectures.
- Exposure to cloud networking (e. g. Azure v Net, VPN/Express Route, hybrid connectivity).
- Experience integrating network platforms with identity and access solutions (e. g. Clear Pass, NAC, 802.1x).
- Relevant industry certifications (e. g. CCNP, PCNSE, NSE4 or equivalent).
- Experience working in industrial, manufacturing or multi-site operational environments.
- Familiarity with network security principles and integration with SOC / MDR services.
- Exposure to network automation, scripting or infrastructure-as-code (e. g. Python, Ansible).
- Experience managing or working alongside managed service providers or external delivery partners.
