What you need to know about the role
We are looking for a skilled Network Security Engineer with a strong focus on firewall technologies to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role is centered on the design, implementation, and day-to-day operation of enterprise firewall platforms, ensuring secure, reliable connectivity across our business. You will play a key part in maintaining and improving our perimeter and internal network security controls, supporting both operational stability and project delivery. The role combines hands-on technical work with the opportunity to influence firewall architecture, standards, and long-term security posture.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain enterprise firewall platforms, ensuring secure, reliable connectivity across IT and OT environments
- Design and implement firewall rules, NAT, and segmentation to support business and industrial systems
- Lead firewall changes and troubleshooting, acting as the senior escalation point for complex network security issues
- Drive continual improvement of firewall policies, focusing on rule optimisation, hygiene, and risk reduction
- Support network design and security controls, with a focus on firewall placement, segmentation, and traffic control
- Work closely with infrastructure, OT, and application teams to enable secure and resilient connectivity
- Deliver firewall and network-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new site deployments
- Provide technical oversight of third parties, ensuring firewall and network changes meet operational and security standards
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation of firewall configurations and network security controls
What we need to know about you
Essential:
- Strong hands-on experience operating and supporting enterprise firewall platforms (preferably Palo Alto) in complex environments
- Proven background in network engineering, including routing, switching, and secure network design across Cisco & Aruba environments
- Experience managing firewall policies, NAT, VPNs, and network segmentation in production environments
- Practical experience with Network Access Control (NAC) solutions such as Aruba ClearPass (or Cisco ISE), including authentication and device profiling
- Experience supporting secure remote access solutions, including VPN and SSE/SASE platforms (e.g. HPE SSE) in enterprise environments
- Experience supporting multi-site environments, including remote access and site-to-site connectivity
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex firewall, network, and remote access issues under operational pressure
- Experience working in OT or industrial environments, or other high-availability, safety-critical networks
- Experience managing and assuring third-party vendors, ensuring network and firewall changes are delivered to an appropriate standard
- Strong operational discipline, including documentation, change control, and maintaining supportable configurations
Desirable:
- Experience with Fortinet firewall platforms
- Experience implementing or transitioning to modern network platforms or NAC solutions
- Exposure to SSE/SASE architectures, including policy design and traffic steering
- Experience designing or implementing network segmentation, particularly in OT or industrial environments
- Knowledge of zero trust principles and modern approaches to network security
- Experience with high availability firewall designs, including clustering and failover strategies
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and traffic analysis tools for firewall and network environments
- Scripting or automation experience (e.g. Python, APIs) to support network and firewall operations
