Overview
Working as Metallurgical Technologist/Technician within our Technical Services department you will be responsible for a combination of the following tasks:
- Sample preparation techniques (Machining/milling/grinding/polishing).
- Metallurgical assessments using microscope techniques.
- Mechanical testing of final products.
- Associated administrative duties with the above processes including reporting and certification.
- Supporting product developments and manufacturing trials as applicable.
- Liaising with internal mill technical teams as required.
You will ensure your work is completed in compliance with all HS&E requirements in the area on a real time basis. The working hours may be day based or shift based (extended day) dependent upon the specific role.
We are looking for someone preferably educated to NVQ Level 3 in a Materials Science or Engineering discipline or equivalent or be time served in a technical or engineering based discipline. A willingness to learn is essential due to the wide scope of work in this area. The ability to work to detailed work instructions and comprehensive risk assessments is imperative. Experience of working in a similar environment would be beneficial.
Other Key Attributes Include:
- Effective communication skills.
- Motivated to work alone or as part of a small team.
- IT literate.
- Knowledge of the integrated iron and steelmaking process would be beneficial.
