Location - Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA & Immingham, North East Lincolnshire, DN40 3LZ

Pattern of Work – 36.5 hours, Monday - Friday

What you need to know about the role

We’re looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for our Ore Preparation Plant, Blast Furnaces & Immingham Bulk Terminal. In this role, you’ll be leading your engineering team in the safe and efficient maintenance of site equipment. British Steel prioritises safety and an expectation of the highest standards would be paramount.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Being responsible for an assigned area’s maintenance and managing your engineering team to achieve plant safety, reliability and productivity.
  • Managing your engineering team to ensure maintenance is undertaken to the correct standards and has been documented with work reports.
  • Mentoring your team members to bring out the best in your teams and inspire people to continuously improve.
  • Using modern diagnostic technology to assess plant condition and plan proactive maintenance.
  • Developing engineering solutions and improvement projects that create a safe working environment and improve reliability and performance of the area.
  • Supporting your engineering team as well as the operational teams to meet safety, environmental and production targets.
  • Managing maintenance work scopes, technical documentation and contractor activity.

This is a challenging but rewarding role. Through the work this role undertakes, you will gain great engineering experiences, be a leader of your own engineering team with support from a lead engineer and get the opportunity to be involved in implementing projects to improve the area you are responsible.

What we need to know about you

You’ll bring strong mechanical engineering knowledge and the confidence to apply it in a heavy industrial environment. Ideally, you’ll have experience in:

  • Good understanding of health and safety within engineering is essential.
  • Mechanical maintenance in complex process industries (steelmaking, power generation, chemical, oil/gas, etc.).
  • Pressure systems, combustion equipment or high-temperature operations.
  • Experience in conveyor belt systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience in preventative maintenance including the creation of maintenance schedules and routines.
  • Experience using CMMS (SAP) to create job reports and attach feedback for a historical reference.
  • Being comfortable and confident in talking with employees and contract companies as a representative of British Steel.

You’ll need excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with production, engineering and contractor teams. You should be qualified to HNC or equivalent in a relevant mechanical discipline; relevant time served experience would also be considered. You will need to be confident in your abilities to ensure you can challenge all on matters such as safety, policies and work standards.
