Mechanical Fitter – AIRED Mechanical Workshop (British Steel Support Function)

Location: Scunthorpe
Shifts: 2-shift system & with 10% shift premium)
Salary: £ Shift Premium + Benefits

About the Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you\’ll be part of a close-knit team providing essential mechanical support across a wide range of plant and equipment. This isn\’t just a maintenance role—it\’s a chance to work on diverse and interesting items that directly support multiple business areas within British Steel.

You\’ll be working in a fully equipped, self-contained workshop designed to enable efficient, high-quality work. From overhauls and refurbishments to reactive repairs, your day-to-day will be varied and rewarding.

What You\’ll Be Doing

• Carrying out mechanical fitting, repairs, and refurbishments
• Working on a wide range of components and assemblies
• Supporting operational teams across British Steel\’s business units
• Ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and reliability
• Collaborating with a skilled team in a well-resourced workshop

What We\’re Looking For

• Time-served Mechanical Fitter or equivalent experience, NVQ level 3 minimum
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
• Flexibility to work shifts and respond to operational needs
