What you need to know about the role

We are recruiting Environmental Facilitators to support strong environmental standards across our Ironmaking and Steelmaking operations at Scunthorpe. This is a hands-on, plant-based role with a strong operational focus. You will act as the local point of contact for environmental matters within your assigned area, working closely with plant teams, contractors and the central Environment Team to support compliance, promote good environmental practice and help identify risks and improvements. This role is not a technical specialist position. Instead, it’s about visibility, engagement and practical support – helping teams understand and apply environmental requirements day to day, and escalating technical or regulatory issues to the appropriate specialists when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as the local environmental point of contact for your Ironmaking or Steelmaking area
  • Supporting the implementation of site and corporate environmental standards within plant operations
  • Helping plant teams understand environmental permit requirements and how these translate into operational controls
  • Maintaining a visible presence on the plant, identifying environmental risks, poor practices and improvement opportunities
  • Supporting investigations into environmental incidents, near misses and complaints, alongside the Environment Team
  • Assisting with action planning and close-out of environmental actions
  • Supporting plant inspections, walkabouts and audits
  • Acting as the link between the plant and the central Environment Team, coordinating information, data and documentation
  • Supporting regulator visits and inspections at plant level, under guidance from the Environment Team
  • Helping deliver environmental briefings, toolbox talks and awareness sessions
  • Promoting continuous improvement and encouraging reporting of environmental concerns

What we need to know about you

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant environmental discipline, such as:
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management or Level 3 Award / Certificate in Environmental Science or Environmental Management
  • Experience working in an operational or industrial environment
  • A good understanding of plant operations and environmental risks
  • Confidence engaging with front-line teams and supervisors
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A practical, solution-focused approach
  • A strong awareness of Health, Safety and Environment
  • Approachable, credible and comfortable working on the plant
  • Confident to challenge poor practice constructively
  • Well organised and able to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative and supportive rather than directive
  • Confident to escalate issues appropriately
