About this role:
We’re looking for an experienced Grid Connections Manager to lead the development and delivery of grid connections for our large-scale renewable energy and battery storage projects.
You’ll act as the key interface with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission Operators (TOs), National Grid ESO, and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs/IDNOs), ensuring projects achieve timely, cost-effective, and compliant grid access.
This is a pivotal role where you’ll combine technical, commercial, and project management expertise to secure connections from inception through to energisation — driving the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy future.
What we need from you:
Applications & Agreements:
- Lead and manage G99, G100, Statement of Works, and Bilateral Agreements.
- Negotiate and secure contracts, securities, and Joint Operating Agreements.
Technical & Commercial Assessment:
- Analyse reinforcement needs, and cost implications at distribution and transmission levels.
- Identify optimisation opportunities and cost savings within grid offers.
- Ensure compliance with evolving requirements under the NESO Connections Process (Gate 2 and beyond).
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build strong working relationships with DNOs, ICPs, IDNOs, ESO, Ofgem, EPC partners, designers, and legal teams.
- Coordinate regular meetings with DNO project managers and maintain accurate records of progress.
Connection Delivery:
- Oversee surveys, cable routing, meters, MPANs, and import/export agreements.
- Ensure all project milestones align with grid offer requirements.
- Facilitate LV and telecoms requirements for connections.
Risk & Innovation:
- Anticipate risks such as grid availability, curtailment, or reinforcement delays.
- Keep ahead of policy changes, code modifications, and emerging opportunities (flexibility markets, dynamic connections, storage integration).
What skills you will have:
Experience:
- Proven track record of securing and managing grid connections in the UK (distribution and/or transmission).
- Strong technical understanding of power systems, grid code requirements, and connection processes (G99, G100, ENA).
- Commercial awareness of cost drivers, reinforcement works, and flexibility services.
- Experience in renewable generation or energy storage (preferred).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Skill requirement:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or equivalent (Chartered Engineer desirable).
- Proficient in MS Office; AutoCAD experience beneficial.
- Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
- Full UK driving licence.
