Primary Job Purpose
The Occupational Phycologist is responsible for leading the development and continuous improvement of the Mates in Mind programme, ensuring it remains aligned with best practice in organisational psychology, behavioural science, workplace culture and mental health.
The role will provide expert programme support and consultancy to member organisations, helping them assess their current approach, identify barriers to progress and implement meaningful improvements.
The postholder will use member insight, programme outcomes and emerging research to strengthen the programme offer, develop new resources and interventions, and demonstrate measurable impact across organisations and sectors.
The role will also oversee research activity, both to build Mates in Mind’s internal evidence base and to support contracted research programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Mates in Mind programme and associated resources.
- Deliver evidence-based consultancy and programme support to organisations seeking to improve workplace mental health, psychological safety and organisational culture.
- Translate organisational psychology, behavioural science and member insight into practical tools, interventions and learning opportunities.
- Evaluate programme effectiveness and use data, feedback and research to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
- Support members engagement, progression and retention through high-quality relationship management and programme delivery.
Duties and key responsibilities
1. Programme Development and Innovation
- Lead the ongoing review, development and enhancement of the Mates in Mind programme, ensuring alignment with the Workplace Mental Health Standards and frameworks.
- Maintain awareness of developments in organisational psychology, behavioural science, workplace wellbeing and psychological safety.
- Translate evidence and research into practical resources, tools, guidance and interventions for member organisations.
- Develop new programme content, frameworks, guidance documents, toolkits and learning resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve supporter experience, engagement and outcomes through innovation and evidence-informed practice.
- Work collaboratively across the organisation to support the evolution of Mates in Mind's programme offer.
- Support the development of sector-specific resources and approaches where appropriate.
2. Consultancy and Programme Support
- Deliver in-depth programme support to member organisations through virtual and face-to-face consultancy.
Conduct organisational reviews, gap analyses and facilitated discussions aligned to the Workplace Mental Health Standards. - Support organisations to identify strengths, challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate workshops, focus groups and leadership discussions to support organisational change.
- Produce written reports, recommendations and action plans to support member progression.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to leaders, managers and stakeholder groups.
- Support organisations in embedding sustainable approaches to workplace mental health and psychological safety.
- Deliver programme support activities, presentations, workshops and consultancy sessions as required.
3. Learning, Engagement and Community
- Design and deliver engaging webinars, workshops, learning events and communities of practice.
- Develop opportunities for peer learning, collaboration and knowledge sharing among members.
- Produce thought leadership content including blogs, case studies, insight papers and learning resources.
- Contribute to sector discussions and represent Mates in Mind at external meetings, conferences and events.
- Identify and share examples of good practice and member success stories.
- Support the development of engagement initiatives that encourage active participation and programme progression.
4. Impact Measurement and Insight
- Lead the collection, analysis and interpretation of programme data, member feedback and organisational insight.
- Develop approaches for evaluating programme effectiveness and organisational impact.
- Monitor key performance indicators relating to engagement, progression, retention and impact.
- Produce reports and evidence to demonstrate programme outcomes to members, funders and stakeholders.
- Identify emerging themes, trends and opportunities across member organisations.
- Use data and insight to inform programme development and strategic decision making.
- Support the development of benchmarking, maturity assessment and impact measurement approaches.
5. Supporter Development and Retention
- Build strong and trusted relationships with member organisations.
- Support onboarding and progression of members through their programme journey.
- Identify opportunities for additional programme support, training and consultancy services.
- Work closely with the Supporter Development Manager to identify and mitigate renewal risks.
- Contribute towards member retention and renewal objectives through high-quality programme delivery and relationship management.
- Encourage active participation and engagement across all programme tiers.

1. Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Psychology, Organisational Psychology, Organisational
- Development or equivalent professional registration.
- Professional membership of relevant bodies.
- Knowledge of psychological safety frameworks and workplace culture assessment methodologies.
- Skilled and experienced in delivering effective interventions on culture change, behaviour change and workplace mental health.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyse information and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Strong project and programme management skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- High level of attention to detail.
