Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Learning Development Specialist to support the development of high-quality health, safety and wellbeing learning products. The primary focus of this role will be to provide subject matter expertise for an important programme of digital course development, which will also contribute to wider course development, quality assurance, and other Education team priorities. This is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional with a strong training and content-development background to help shape learning products that are technically accurate, engaging and accessible.
Key areas of work:
- To produce and maintain technically accurate health, safety and compliance content for new and existing digital learning products.
- To work closely with digital developers throughout design, build, testing and release, providing timely technical guidance and feedback.
- To develop and review scripts, storyboards, scenarios, activities, knowledge checks, assessment questions and supporting resources.
- To research and interpret relevant legislation, standards, guidance and recognised good practice.
- To translate complex technical information into clear, practical and accessible learning content for the intended audience.
- To review prototypes and course builds to ensure technical meaning, learning outcomes and key messages are retained.
- To carry out technical and educational quality assurance before release, checking accuracy, consistency, accessibility, references, assessments and learner experience.
- To record quality findings, agree on corrective actions with developers, verify amendments and recommend approval or escalation.
- To support content templates, quality checklists, review standards, version control and release processes.
- To review and update courses following changes to legislation, standards, guidance or learner and customer feedback.
- To support the development and review of other courses, assessments, trainer materials and delegate resources as required.
- To provide learner and study support through webinars, tutorials, study forums, learning platforms and written guidance.
- To contribute to project, trainer, standardisation and departmental meetings and work collaboratively across the organisation.
- To maintain relevant CPD, represent the British Safety Council professionally and undertake other reasonable duties in line with changing priorities.
Health and Safety
To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work; and to cooperate with British Safety Council so far as is necessary to enable it to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all its employees. To ensure that risk assessments are carried out in line with British Safety Council’s procedures and report any issues to the Health and Safety Representative.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Minimum NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent recognised Level 3 health and safety qualification
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training, PTLLS or equivalent
- Broad and current health and safety knowledge with the ability to interpret technical information for adult learners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong content writing, review and quality assurance skills with close attention to detail
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365 and PowerPoint
Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience delivering health and safety training to adult learners
- Experience developing or reviewing health and safety course content or learner resources
- Experience managing priorities and providing constructive feedback to colleagues
Desirable
- Higher-level health and safety qualification and Technical membership of IOSH or above
- Knowledge of digital learning, accessibility and assessment, with familiarity with LMS, SCORM, authoring tools or JIRA
- Digital course development experience, including scripts, storyboards or review of e-learning builds
- Experience teaching or supporting NEBOSH Certificate-level learners
- Experience of quality assurance, moderation, marking or cross-functional project work
