City of Cambridge Rowing Club is seeking an ambitious and inspiring Director of Rowing to continue the Club’s ambitious growth plans.

About the Club

City of Cambridge has emerged as one of the leading UK provincial performance programmes over the last few years. The club competes across the board at junior, senior, and master levels. A new boathouse was completed 6 years ago with state of the art gym and social facilities. The fleet has been regularly refreshed and most crews row in boats that are less than ten years old. Filippi boats represent half of the fleet and our top crews row in carbon rigged Filippi 8s and 4s that are less than 3 years old. Extensive use is made of Peach telemetry in both the eights and fours. Club membership has grown consistently and now stands at 298 adult and 81 junior members. Some of the recent competition highlights include:

• Qualified 26 athletes in HRR (including 8 juniors); 2 crews raced in quarter finals




• Consistent top 50 finishes at the men and women’s head of the river races;




• Women’s 1st boat were winners of the provincial club pennant 2026 at WeHORR




• 2 category wins at Vesta scullers head




• Winners of the Davison Award at Fours Head




• Wins at leading national regattas;




• Men & women’s Headship at Cambridge Town Bumps.

About the Role

As Director of Rowing you will lead and develop the club’s rowing programme, working alongside the Head Junior Coach, volunteer coaches and Club Management. You will build a high quality coaching program across different squads including juniors, seniors and masters. This includes both the development of coaches, and personally coaching crews. You will work with the club Captain to oversee the planning and delivery of training programmes, camps, and attend regattas as required.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the club’s rowing programme.




• Lead, develop and support the volunteer coaching team.




• Coach junior, senior and masters athletes.




• Work alongside the Head Junior Coach to develop the junior programme.




• Develop and strengthen partnerships with schools and other organisations.




• Attend regattas, head races, training camps and other rowing events.




• Create and promote a safe, inclusive and aspirational environment where all members can thrive.

Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have significant rowing coaching experience within a club, school or university environment including experience planning and delivering athlete and coach development programmes and a background of rowing at a high level.

The successful candidate will require an enhanced DBS check and to have attended the British Rowing Safeguarding and protecting children course.

Desirable Qualifications:

• A recognised coaching qualification equivalent to BR level 2




• Powerboat RYA 2 (or equivalent)




• A full driving licence




• Experience towing trailers

Hours And Benefits

• Weekly/monthly hours will vary depending on the rowing calendar and events. (on average 37.5 hours/week)




• Regular evening and weekend working will be required, together with attendance at regattas, head races and training camps throughout the season.

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 dependent on experience
