Assistant Coach (Part-Time) - Sons of the Thames

Sons of the Thames Rowing Club is looking for a part-time Assistant Rowing Coach to support the development of our Masters Women's and Men's race squads, working alongside Head Coach Peter Haining. The role involves leading weekend on-water sessions, providing technical and individualised feedback, and supporting crew selection for training and racing.

About the Role

Working alongside and under the mentorship of our Head Coach, Peter Haining, the successful candidate will lead on-water coaching sessions on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings, providing clear, technical, individualised feedback to rowers and crews. You will also support the squad selection process for training and racing, ensuring athletes are placed in the right boats to perform at their best.

In addition, you will play an important role in helping us attract and retain new athletes who are committed to competitive rowing.
This role is ideal for an experienced rower who is ready to begin or further their coaching career - with the guidance of an exceptional Head Coach and without the pressure of running a full programme.

  • An experienced rower with strong technical understanding
  • Someone enthusiastic about developing athletes and contributing to a positive squad culture
  • Ideally someone who is Level 2 qualified, or intent on working towards their coaching qualifications
  • A competent and confident launch driver

START DATE: September 2026
HOURS: You will be required to coach at least one morning each week (Saturday or Sunday) for 3 hours (0800-1100).
FEES: payment dependent on experience and qualification.
