THE ROLE
The BRC is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Property and Finance to lead the BRC’s policy agenda in these business‑critical areas for retailers. Working closely with the Policy Director, the wider BRC team and BRC members, this role requires deep policy expertise and collaborative working across policy, public affairs and media to maximise impact, deliver member value and support delivery of the BRC’s business plan. The role is responsible for senior policy development and execution, with a strong emphasis on external impact, team leadership and strategic judgment. The Head of Property and Finance will lead the BRC’s Property Community, while overseeing both policy areas, including core Finance activity and related areas including energy, customs matters and trade tariffs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the BRC’s Property Community, responsible for the development and execution of a clear community plan delivering member priorities.
- Lead stakeholder involvement with the Property Community to deliver value to senior member representatives in policy outcomes and in insight, learning opportunities and market intelligence.
- Oversee the work of the Finance Policy Advisor, ensuring successful delivery of the objectives of the Finance Community.
- Act as a senior, credible representative of the retail industry with government officials, advisors, regulators and other stakeholders, including landlords.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with each group to support constructive engagement and influence.
- Represent the BRC in the media, at external committees, forums, events and conferences, promoting the BRC’s leadership and members’ interests.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Strong experience of policy formulation, advocacy at a senior level and ability to build consensus.
- Understanding of property and finance policy and relevance to the retail industry.
- Proven ability in influencing government, regulatory bodies and policymakers at senior levels to deliver regulatory change/government policy.
- High credibility with members, stakeholders and internal colleagues.
- Proven people management capability, including developing people and building effective teams.
