At the British Red Cross, we’re looking for a qualified (or experienced) surveyor to join our Scottish regional team. Are you a solutions-focused surveyor who can take accountability for all property-related budgets to help drive significant revenue efficiencies? If this sounds like a great opportunity for you, please keep reading….
A day in the life of a Building Surveyor (Facilities Management Projects): In this challenging role you will be responsible for the delivery of facilities management projects and escalations from our TFM contractor on projects across our property estate. Your focus will be on fabric-related projects (such as roof replacement, damp and mould issues, and planned maintenance). These works help fulfil our lease obligations and maintain our freehold properties.
You’ll work closely with managers and property users to plan and develop the property portfolio within your region. Your expertise will ensure consistent support across all property-related activity. You’ll act as the first point of expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll seek to minimise costs and maximise returns across your area. In this largely autonomous role you’ll drive efficiency, compliance, flexibility, and future scalability. You’ll achieve this through the provision of effective corporate support services, applications, data management and purchasing. You’ll provide input to the property strategy process.
You’ll collaborate closely with the Facilities Management, Estates Surveying and Building Surveying teams who make up the wider Property Department. You’ll work with a high level of delegated authority and autonomy to deliver agreed outcomes.
The successful candidate for this region will be largely working from home, with regular site visits in the area. The roles cover properties across different regions of the UK and will require a readiness to travel and work outside normal hours as necessary. All roles come with a company car due to the travel involved.
To be a successful Building Surveyor, you’ll:
- Have a surveying qualification e.g. MCIOB, MRICS or qualified by experience.
- Have experience of the different responsibilities associated with building surveying, such as building defect diagnosis, fire risk assessments, asbestos management, and basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Be a dynamic yet adaptable person with the drive and determination to manage and prioritise your workload across a multi-site portfolio.
- Have the experience of carrying out property inspections and producing reports.
- Be able to produce tender documents, arrange tenders and act as a contract administrator.
- Be negotiating with all levels of external stakeholders including landlords and solicitors.
- Be a team player who is solution-oriented, communicates well, and influences effectively.
- Have a full UK driving licence and can travel within your region (sometimes with little notice).
Interested? Closing date for applications is 23:59hrs on Tuesday 10th February 2026. Interviews will take place soon after.
In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:
- Flexible working: Remote and hybrid working, flexitime, compressed hours, and job sharing.
- Holidays: 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy 5 extra days.
- Pension scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.
- Learning & Development: A range of career & learning opportunities.
- Discounts: Blue Light Discount Card, Tickets For Good & employee benefits platform.
- Cyle2Work: Lease a bicycle through the scheme.
