The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is the UK’s leading reproductive healthcare charity. We exist to champion reproductive choice, clinical excellence, and compassionate care. Every day, our teams support women and families across the country with high-quality services, expert advice, and advocacy that shapes policy and public understanding.
This is a unique opportunity to join BPAS’s Senior Operational Team, contributing to our shared vision and strategic ambitions as we continue to deliver sustainable organisational and clinical success.
As the Deputy Chief Commercial Officer, you will be responsible for leading the commercial strategy and driving income growth across the charity. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing plans to diversify and optimise revenue streams, build and nurture strategic partnerships, and increase the organisation’s market share and impact.
You will lead the Business Development Team and oversee key commercial functions including tendering, contract management, partnership development, and process optimisation. This role is both strategic and hands-on, and requires a proactive leader with a strong commercial acumen and a passion for improving women’s health outcomes.
You will be the senior responsible lead for BPAS’s commercial activities — shaping our tendering and business development pipelines, establishing effective contract management frameworks, and cultivating sustainable relationships with NHS, ICB, and Local Authority commissioners. Working closely with the CFO and the Senior Operating Team, you will ensure that commercial growth is embedded within the wider organisational strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a robust commercial strategy aligned with BPAS’s mission and strategic goals.
- Identify new income-generating opportunities and innovative business models to diversify funding sources.
- Lead the tendering process end-to-end, ensuring successful submissions and strategic positioning within the healthcare landscape.
- Oversee contract and partnership management, ensuring compliance, performance monitoring, and long-term sustainability.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to the CFO and Chief Officer team.
- Lead, inspire, and grow a high-performing Business Development team with a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, regulators, and key healthcare stakeholders.
- Use data and business intelligence to inform decision-making, forecasting, and strategic investment.
About You

- Significant experience in a senior commercial or business development role, ideally within healthcare, charity, or public sector organisations.
- A proven record of developing and delivering commercial strategies and securing high-value contracts or partnerships.
- Deep understanding of NHS commissioning, public sector procurement, and contract management.
- Experience leading successful tender processes and building sustainable commercial relationships.
- Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication abilities.
- A personal commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and BPAS’s mission to protect and advance reproductive choice.
