Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare? We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team within our unit in Newcastle. You will work 28 hours per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

About the role

As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high‑quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception and vasectomy. You will be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and will work in all areas of the unit, including theatre and recovery. The role also involves providing treatment and clinical information to clients both in person and over the phone.

About You

  • Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Midwife (practising) with an active NMC registration and PIN
  • At least 12 months of clinical practice experience
  • Strong interest in sexual health and reproductive healthcare
  • Clinical knowledge and experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
  • Compassionate and empathetic care for clients

Main duties of the job

  • Work in accordance with NMC guidelines, the Abortion Act 1967, the Health & Social Care Act and BPAS clinical policies and procedures
  • Ensure the client understands her options in relation to pregnancy; if choosing termination, meet the grounds of the Abortion Act
  • Provide information on STI testing, undertake tests, discuss and confirm the client’s future choice of contraception
  • Implement procedures from client case notes, including administering medication for medical abortion procedures or cervical preparation
  • Carry out post‑treatment check‑ups by assessing the client’s physical condition and discussing any concerns
  • Complete relevant paperwork and, if post‑treatment problems arise, arrange referrals to the clinic or an NHS agency as necessary
  • Care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments, including general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic

Qualifications

  • Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Midwife (practising)
  • Active NMC registration and valid PIN
  • Ultrasound scanning skills

Experience

  • Minimum 12 months clinical practice experience
  • Experience in general nursing or midwifery
  • Experience completing client documentation and working within guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH requirements and infection control
  • Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant speciality (sexual health, contraception)
