Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare? We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team within our Richmond, London Unit. You will work full-time, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.
As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. You'll be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment & will work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery. This role will involve providing treatment & clinical information to clients both in person & over the phone.
Responsibilities:
- You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
- Ensure that the client understands her options in relation to the pregnancy &, if choosing termination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
- Provide information on STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, inform and confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
- Carefully check for and implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervical preparation.
- Carry out post treatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client and discussing any concerns.
- Complete relevant paperwork and in the event of post treatment problems, make arrangements with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
- To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. This could include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.
Qualifications:
- You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN.
- You'll have clinical practice experience of at least 12 months & have a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare.
- Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential for this role.
- You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and you will be adept at caring for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way.
- Sound & accurate administrative competence with attention to detail.
- Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty i.e., sexual health, contraception.
- Venepuncture / cannulation skills.
- Comfortable using IT and Microsoft Packages including Outlook, Word and Microsoft Teams.
