At BPAS, we are looking for a Lead Nurse or Midwife to come and join our passionate team in Peterborough.
Responsibilities
- Provide abortion and sexual health information, pre‑treatment assessment and treatment to patients in a supportive manner.
- Work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Lead, manage and mentor a clinical team of nurses and midwives involved in the provision of the termination service.
- Deputise in the absence of the Treatment Unit Manager, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety for our patients.
- Deliver high standards of care in accordance with NMC Guidelines for Professional Practice and promote the safety and well‑being of patients at all times.
- Assess the gestation of the pregnancy by ultrasound scanning and ensure the patient’s decision complies with the terms of the Abortion Act.
- Check for and implement any procedure indicated on Patient Care Notes, including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures, cervical preparation and surgical treatment.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff, including bank and agency staff, and provide an environment conducive to learning.
- Complete Datix and ensure complaints / serious incidents are dealt with in a timely manner according to policy and procedure.
- Perform clinical audits and act on the results, escalating them to the relevant person/team as necessary.
- Assist the Unit Manager in setting budgets for the Unit and ensuring that CQC standards are maintained.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Abortion Act, Health & Safety, COSHH requirements, Infection Control and Child Protection.
- A friendly, professional, supportive and non‑judgmental person with a commitment to a patient‑led service.
- Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife (practising) who has experience of leading and managing a team.
- Experience of working within a clinical environment, supervising or managing other clinical staff.
- Experience working to guidelines, policies and procedures and completing patient documentation.
