BPAS is an independent healthcare charity which, for more than 55 years, has been advocating for and caring for women and couples who decide to end a pregnancy. We are the leading specialist provider of abortion advice and treatment in the UK, supporting over 100,000 women each year across more than 50 clinics nationwide. BPAS is committed to protecting, defending, and advancing abortion rights across the UK.

We are looking for a Parliamentary and Public Affairs Manager to join our small, effective, and highly committed advocacy team to help us take this essential work forward. This role forms part of a renewed investment in our advocacy function, providing an exciting opportunity to help shape BPAS's public affairs work at a significant time for reproductive health and rights.

As Parliamentary and Public Affairs Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Advocacy and wider advocacy team to manage BPAS's relationships with parliamentarians, stakeholders and the wider pro-choice sector. You will play a key role in influencing policy and decision-makers across Parliament, Government and the wider political landscape to improve women’s rights, health, and access to abortion care. This is a hybrid role with regular travel to Central London, including Westminster and Parliament, for meetings and events.

Main duties of the job:
  • Manage BPAS's cross-party engagement strategy in Westminster, building relationships with parliamentarians, peers, Government departments & civil servants to support organisational objectives.
  • Support the Head of Advocacy in leading BPAS's work towards fit-for-purpose abortion law in Westminster.
  • Brief and support parliamentarians as part of BPAS's work to protect and defend women's reproductive rights.
  • Develop & manage parliamentary & policy monitoring activity, producing internal & external briefings and supporting parliamentary questions relevant to reproductive health and rights.
  • Build BPAS's profile & ongoing relationships within the wider women's health sector in & around Westminster.
About You:

You’ll be educated to degree level or possess equivalent experience, with relevant experience working in Parliament. You will bring detailed knowledge of the UK political landscape, parliamentary procedures and the policy-making process, alongside experience of working with multiple stakeholders and supporting the development and delivery of organisational goals. You’ll be highly skilled at building relationships, managing competing priorities and influencing decision-makers across a complex stakeholder environment. You will also have experience of parliamentary monitoring and database systems and be confident responding to fast-moving political developments. Experience working in and around abortion, women’s health, or women’s rights advocacy would be beneficial, but is not essential.
