BPAS are seeking an experienced and motivated Vasectomy Surgeon to join our service in Chester. Our list currently runs on a Tuesday and occasional Saturdays.
As a clientâcentred clinician, you will deliver safe, highâquality vasectomy care from initial consultation through treatment and postâoperative followâup while ensuring compliance with BPAS Clinical Guidelines, professional standards, and statutory requirements. You will work collaboratively with nursing and operational teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Main duties of the job- Undertake patient consultations, reviewing referrals and assessing suitability for vasectomy, taking into account medical, psychological, and social factors.
- Ensure that patients receive clear, accurate information to support informed decisionâmaking, and obtain valid consent for permanent procedures.
- Perform vasectomy procedures under local anaesthetic, in accordance with your professional competence and BPAS clinical guidelines.
- Oversee postâoperative care, including prescribing medication, reviewing semen analysis results, and identifying and managing any complications.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities to maintain high standards of care.
- You will be accountable for delivering care safely and effectively, in line with BPAS clinical standards and governance frameworks.
- Holds a primary medical qualification (MBBS / MB ChB or equivalent) and full GMC registration with license to practice.
- Has demonstrable experience performing vasectomy procedures and providing preâprocedure counselling for permanent methods of contraception.
- Is confident managing periâoperative and postâoperative care, recognising and responding to complications.
- Communicates effectively, demonstrating sensitivity, professionalism, and sound clinical judgement.
- Works collaboratively within a multiâdisciplinary team while exercising autonomous decisionâmaking within your scope of professional competence.

Job description- Position: Treatment Doctor â Vasectomy Surgeon
- Location: BPAS Chester â 2 Canal St, Chester CH1 4EJ
- Hours: 7.5 per week
- Working Pattern: Every Tuesday (Occasional Saturdays if available)
- Salary: ÂŁ96,900 â ÂŁ115,260 per annum (pro rata for part time hours) depending on skills & experience.

Person SpecificationQualifications- Essential: Primary medical qualification (MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent)
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification
- Desirable: CoSRH Special Skills Module in Local Anaesthetic Vasectomy or equivalent experience
- Training in medical ethics or medicoâlegal aspects of surgical practice
- Essential: Experience of performing vasectomy procedures in a clinical setting, with confidence in both standard and more complex cases.
- Experience of providing preâprocedure counselling and obtaining valid, informed consent for permanent procedures.
- Experience of managing periâoperative and postâoperative care, including recognising and managing complications.
- Desirable: Experience of working in the independent sector.
- Experience in training or mentoring colleagues.
- Essential: Assessment and management of surgical complications.
- Sexual health issues relevant to vasectomy practice.
- Competence in noâscalpel vasectomy techniques under local anaesthetic.
- Ability to work effectively with nursing and operational teams.
- Ability to provide clear counselling regarding permanence, failure rates, and alternatives.
