BPAS are looking for Surgeons to perform terminations of pregnancy in our clinics across the UK. We have opportunities in Merseyside, Doncaster, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Chester, Leicester, Birmingham, Peterborough, Northampton, & London East.
As a treatment doctor/surgeon you will provide safe, effective and comprehensive surgical and medical terminations of pregnancy to BPAS clients. We welcome candidates who currently operate between 13+6 and 24 weeks, along with those who are keen to train and progress towards working safely and competently at higher gestations within the legal limit.
BPAS is an independent healthcare charity which has been advocating and caring for women and couples who decide to end a pregnancy for more than 50 years. We are the leading specialists of abortion advice and treatment in the UK, taking care of almost 80,000 women each year in over 50 clinics nationwide. Nearly all the women we see have their care paid for by the NHS.
About You
With a Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent and full General Medical Council registration plus a license to practice, you will be passionate and committed to reproductive healthcare. You will ensure that all BPAS clients are treated in a professional and caring way and have unwavering support for a woman's right to choose abortion. A good communicator you enjoy building strong working relationships across the business and enjoy maintaining such relationships as well.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out termination of pregnancy by the appropriate method to evacuate the products of conception and ensure complete abortion and in accordance with BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
- Complete client consultation if needed and complete the statutory documentation.
- Assess and provide advice on the management of clients with medical or other conditions which may affect the abortion process.
- Be present in the operating theatre throughout each procedure and remain on site until all clients have been assessed fit for discharge from recovery or passed to the care of another on-site doctor.
- Provide support, advice and guidance to nursing staff in the management of unexpected outcomes.
We are also looking for:
- Experience of independent practice for any abortion procedures/gestations relevant to the post, or willingness to be trained in-house.
- Knowledge of termination of pregnancy procedures and the assessment and management of complications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to be pro-active and flexible.
- Experience of IUD/Implant insertion along with knowledge of sexual health issues.
- Willing to travel to other locations within the region and/or work flexibly.
Further Information:
Hours: We are open to a discussion with surgeons who express an interest in working with us. We are able to accommodate between 7.5 hours and 37.5 hours per week.
Salary: £103,020 to £154,020 a year (pro rata for part time) - Depending on skills & experience.
