Are you an experienced Operating Department Practitioner looking for a better work-life balance? We are looking for an ODP or Adult Nurse Level 1 with theatre/anaesthetic experience to join the theatre team at our unit in Doncaster. This is an opportunity for applicants wishing to work on a casual basis. BPAS Doncaster delivers a full range of reproductive healthcare services including surgical procedures under conscious sedation and general anaesthetic. About You

You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Operating Department Practitioner with experience of working within an operating department/theatre environment, who is passionate about supporting clients during a vulnerable time in their lives. You’ll have knowledge of airway management and care of the unconscious client along with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation. With a positive can do attitude you will be a team player, with the ability to work on your own initiative when required.

Main duties of the job

  • Check and prepare the operating department environment & anaesthetic equipment prior to use, between clients & at the end of the list.
  • Undertake the care, support, & observations of the client during the pre / post-operative period, reporting any abnormal recordings to the Anaesthetist.
  • Maintain anaesthetic stock levels, including storing, replenishing & ordering of drugs, oxygen & equipment, & oversee & assist with the preparation of anaesthetics.
  • Provide comfort, support & reassurance to clients at times of anxiety or distress, & to maintain and respect the privacy, dignity & confidentiality of clients at all times.
  • Oversee, complete & sign off relevant documentation, ensuring it is accurate & fully completed in a timely manner, and ensure relevant sections of the surgery checklist is completed before and after procedures.

About the role

As an ODP, you will work within the operating department to provide planned care for clients undergoing anaesthetic and surgical procedures and will deliver specialist assistance to the anaesthetist. Working as a part of a multi‑disciplinary team you will also work across the full peri‑operative pathway including scrub and recovery.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 months experience of working within anaesthetics

  • Experience of working in all areas of the operating department (anaesthetics / theatre / recovery)
  • Experience of gynae / TOP surgery
