We are seeking an enterprising Head of Global Sales to drive our international growth and revenue. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will develop and execute long-term sales strategies, build and manage sustainable sales pipelines, mentor our academic liaison, marketing department, and regional sales teams, identify new market opportunities, and optimise sales operations.

This post is available on a full-time basis and will be primarily remote. However, the successful candidate will need to attend our office in Wakefield when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Displaying a hands-on approach to innovation, develop and implement long-term global sales strategies in alignment with the aims of our executive board and broader business goals.
  • Identify new markets, monitor competitor activities as well as key educational and market trends (local and global).
  • Engage with existing and new customers, detailing the nature, significance, and value of our primary source collections, as well as delivering outstanding post-sales support.
  • Oversee our global sales pipeline and sales negotiations. Manage and optimise our HubSpot CRM system to ensure that pipeline information is accurate.
  • Manage client accounts, displaying excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as identifying opportunities to progress relationships.
  • Direct our regional sales representatives, driving a high-performance culture across diverse geographies.
  • Liaise with and direct our Account Manager and Academic Liaison Manager.
  • Engage with our content, editorial, and marketing teams to produce high-quality products and associated promotional campaigns that generate meaningful impact.
  • Represent the company at sector conferences, user meetings, and partner events, building positive relationships that lead to sustainable sales pipelines.
  • Uphold the company’s core values and ethos.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in humanities or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in sales. Our preferred candidate will display acute commercial awareness and possess a track record of delivering sustainable revenue in a relevant commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of the Higher Education landscape, particularly the university sector. Ideally, our preferred candidate will have experience of working with academic libraries or closely related institutional markets, demonstrating familiarity with key personnel, procurement models, budget cycles, and decision-making processes.
  • 3+ years of management experience. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrable experience of managing complex, consultative sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders, such as academics, librarians, as well as procurement and consortia representatives.
  • Frequent domestic travel and occasional international travel are essential in this role.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Commercial awareness for a growing SME.
  • In-depth knowledge of the academic publishing market and its key personnel.
  • Experience of selling digital products.
  • Proven experience of managing international teams.
  • Evident interest in the study of history and genuine passion for the primary source collections that we curate.
