British Mica is a 125-year-old engineering business based in Bedford offering a complete service in the supply of most types of engineering and insulating plastics. Machining, profiling, presswork, fabricating and polishing are all carried out to a high standard. A family-owned and employee-owned business, the company works with high-level blue-chip corporations solving their engineering challenges. We are a growing business with new avenues of work coming forward.

The candidate will work across the company and look to find the sector they most want to progress in and suit their skills. The candidate needs to be self-motivated and flexible in their attitude to work within a small team to deliver projects on time and budget. The company will train and help create pathways for candidates to grow in the current role and move forward as the company grows.

Overall responsibility: Responsible for producing laminated components made from glass reinforced plastic (GRP) using hand lay and RTM methods in accordance with specifications and time allocations.

Main Duties:

  • Trimming and Finishing GRP Products
  • Prepare moulds and work surfaces for GRP laminating
  • Produce GRP components using hand lay and RTM methods
  • Working to a weekly workload plan
  • Maintain clear positive communication with the Lamination Supervisor
  • Perform other non-core duties as required subject only to health/safety and training constraints
  • Perform duties in accordance with the company ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Mould repairs

Working Hours: Monday – Friday 07.00 am-15.00 pm. 12.30-13.00 lunch

The Candidate:

  • The candidate will need to be robust, structured and detail orientated with an efficient operative mindset getting things done
  • The role needs someone who has a keen eye for detail, who is diligent, who can follow procedures and who works to achieve detailed daily and weekly targets
  • The candidate needs to be willing to work as a team and support all other departments as and when required

Job specific requirements:

  • Excellent understanding of Glass Fibre (GRP) Lamination processes and techniques
  • Able to follow the correct ratios of resins, hardeners, catalysts, and curing times
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Job Types: Full-time or Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £23,000.00-£30,000.00 per year (depending on experience)
