We are recruiting a new full-time Boatyard Operative to join us at our Boatyard and Dry Stack Marina in Plymouth.
With nine marinas in the UK and Europe, and four sites on the River Plym, Yacht Havens Group is a major player in the Marine & Leisure industry and offers all the benefits and stability you would expect from a forward-thinking employer. Yacht Haven Quay, Plymouth, specialise in dry stack marina berthing, as well as the lifting and storage of a variety of vessels. Our unique position on the Cattewater near the Laira Bridge is a stunning place to work, with the added benefit of a brilliant cafe on-site!
The Role
You’ll be dealing with our berth holders, visitors and customers on a daily basis, resolving issues with a "can-do" attitude to enhance our customers' experience. This will be face to face and over the phone. Some of your regular duties will include:
- Launching and recovery of a variety of vessels from 4m to 12m on a daily basis.
- Operation of machinery and plant for boat lifting, movement and storage within the yard.
- Working on projects to maintain and improve the facilities on our diverse site, consisting of pontoons, buildings, yards, and tenanted commercial units.
You’ll learn to use our marine forklifts, mobile cranes, and hydraulic boat movers, and receive formal training and qualifications. You’ll often be working outside and in all weathers, including on the water. You need to enjoy new challenges and relish your adaptability! Due to the nature of our business, regular weekend work is required with time off during the week in lieu.
About You
We believe that our positive interaction with our customers is our biggest strength in the marketplace. Whatever your background, you’ll be looking to excel in this whilst enjoying the benefits of working in a varied role, outdoors, and by the water. You’ll need to take pride in a job well done, with an eye for detail, whilst reassuring our customers that their boats are safe in your hands. Experience of working with boats and forklifts/cranes is useful but not essential; what’s most important to us is that you are positive, outgoing and friendly, and willing to learn new skills. Full training will be given, so whether your background is hotels, restaurants, property maintenance, boats, engineering, craning or general machinery, you’ll be given plenty of support to develop your skillset.
