Team and role overview:
The Investment Operations team is made up of three groups:
- Data Management – responsible for ensuring investment related data is appropriate, accurate and consistent. Responsible for implementation and development of the Data Governance Policy.
- Portfolio Administration – responsible for ensuring all transactions are processed in a timely manner and recorded accurately. Responsible for ensuring BII’s portfolio of investments is monitored for lifecycle events and administered effectively and efficiently.
- Reconciliations and Reporting – responsible for conducting cash and stock reconciliations, and monitoring receipt and processing reporting due from investee companies, funds and borrowers.
This role will sit within the Portfolio Administration team and focus on BII’s loan and guarantee investments.
Responsibilities:
- Operational Review of Legal Documentation
- Review draft facility agreements, security documents, and ancillary loan documentation to ensure operational feasibility and administrative accuracy.
- Identify operational risks, inconsistencies, or impractical terms and provide clear, actionable feedback to Deal Teams and Legal.
- Assess administrative clauses (interest mechanics, repayment terms, reporting requirements, covenants, notices) to ensure compatibility with internal systems and processes.
- Recommend documentation adjustments to support efficient lifecycle management and minimise downstream operational issues.
- Collaboration With Deal Teams & Legal
- Work closely with Legal and deal team during drafting and negotiation to ensure operational considerations are incorporated.
- Provide timely commentary on documentation to support alignment with credit approval terms.
- Track documentation progress and ensure all operational requirements are addressed ahead of closing.
- Participate in closing discussions and documentation reviews to ensure readiness for administration.
- Loan Administration & Closing Support
- Support the setup of new loan instruments, including bank account verification, system configuration, and onboarding of facility terms.
- Review executed documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency with negotiated terms.
- Maintain safe custody of executed documents and ensure the document register is accurate and up to date.
- Lifecycle Event Oversight
- Monitor and administer lifecycle events such as interest periods, rate settings, principal and interest payments, and fee calculations.
- Liaise with third‑party loan administrators to confirm rate settings, payment schedules, and accruals.
- Track periodic reporting obligations and follow up with investees to obtain outstanding reports.
- Produce reporting for Investment Teams on upcoming events, overdue items, and documentation‑related risks.
The candidate:
- Previous experience in loan administration, loan operations, or documentation support.
- Strong understanding of loan facility structures, financial instruments, and operational mechanics.
- Ability to interpret legal agreements and identify operational implications.
- Highly organised, with strong follow‑up discipline and the ability to manage multiple documentation streams.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Previous experience working with loan or portfolio administration systems, ideally eFront.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
- Experience using Debt Domain or similar documentation platforms.
- IOC or IMC qualification.
- Candidates should be strongly motivated by BII’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non‑executive activity.
