Team and role overview
BII’s Infrastructure Equity Team for Africa & Pakistan invests equity and equity‑like capital in businesses in infrastructure sub‑sectors such as power generation/transmission/distribution, transport, and water, across Africa and Pakistan. Over the past 10 years the team has built a $1.1bn+ portfolio of 10 exciting, developmental assets in Africa & Pakistan including a controlling stake in a leading Africa independent power producer, Globeleq (assets in 8 countries) and a controlling stake in a developer focused on transmission and distribution in Africa (Gridworks), and partnerships/joint ventures with top tier international groups such as DP World in ports and logistics (Senegal, Somaliland, Egypt and DRC), TotalEnergies and the Aga Khan groups in hydropower (Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Malawi), and Metito in water. Our typical investment size is $20-50m of growth capital for expansion with larger investments across portfolios of assets. The team comprises 12 investment professionals. The team structure is designed to be very flat; employees at all levels are involved across all aspects of deals and portfolio management and in presenting to important stakeholders such as Investment Committee and external third parties.
Purpose
The Infrastructure Equity (Africa & Pakistan) team is looking to hire individuals to join on a fixed term basis to cover parental leave across 2026. We are open to hiring at Associate/ Executive / Manager level depending on the combination of applications received. There are 6 job levels in the team – Analyst, Associate, Executive, Manager, Director & Team Head. However, the team is very flat and people at all levels are involved in the real detail, and in representational work, both to Investment Committee and externally. Directors and, to a material degree, Managers act as deal leads/oversights with junior team members supporting. Individuals of all levels will work on origination, evaluation, and execution of new investments and portfolio management of existing investee companies.
The candidate
- Experience and track record in structuring, and executing equity transactions in the infrastructure/energy space
- Interest in development and particularly in Africa
- Experience in financial modelling and analysis
- Analytical and research skills and ability to make commercial assessments
- Ability to work on multiple projects across products and sub‑sectors while working to deadlines and managing time effectively
- Business communication and presentation skills
- Relationship building skills and ability to develop a network of relevant external contacts, as well as internally across different teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
