This role sits within the Business Applications team which is responsible for the overall application landscape within BII. Central to this role is design, development and maintenance of business intelligence solutions to empower data driven decision making across the organisation.

Purpose

The role blends Power BI and data warehouse development, with responsibility for designing and implementing Power BI solutions for stakeholders, primarily drawing data from BII’s core portfolio management system (eFront) and BII’s Enterprise Data Warehouse. The role is also responsible for building and maintaining ETL processes and requires a strong understanding of data warehousing and data modelling concepts. Working beyond IT, the role partners closely with business users and the Change Management team to understand requirements and deliver insightful, data‑driven solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop intuitive and visually appealing reports and dashboards using Power BI desktop.
  • Build and maintain ETL processes to integrate data from various sources.
  • Develop and maintain data warehouses.
  • Connect data sources, import data, and transform data from the Enterprise Data Warehouse and various other sources.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across data platforms, acting to remedy data related issues where necessary.
  • Integrate Power BI reports into other applications using embedded analytics.
  • Ownership of the BI Jira space covering project delivery, BAU activities, and backlog management.
  • Working with offshore resources, including coordinating day‑to‑day activities, ensuring clear requirements and handovers, and aligning delivery with agreed priorities, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Apply advanced-level calculations on the data set, presenting complex data using data visualisation techniques.
  • User training and co-development with advanced users.
  • Implement row-level security on data along with an understanding of application security layer models in Power BI, including role-based access control.
  • Monitor report performance and usage.
  • Create data models and queries, optimising for performance and scalability where required.
  • Responsible for design methodology and delivery documentation.
  • Conduct data quality checks and report findings to appropriate business stakeholders.
  • Define Power BI standards and best practices and improve process and user adoption.
  • Stay up to date with the latest BI industry trends, tools and best practices.

The candidate

Successful candidates will have a background in Power BI development from within a financial environment, preferably from within Private Equity/Private Debt/Funds/Investments/Financial Markets and will have a solid understanding of data modelling, governance and analytics.

Essential skills

  • Very strong experience with SQL, Power BI, DAX.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and analytics concepts and theories.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate insights into actionable outcomes.
  • Row level security.
  • Experience with data sources such as SQL / SharePoint / Excel.
  • Experience with CI/CD for BI assets, including deployment pipelines, environment management (dev/test/prod), and release management.
  • Experience applying formal testing practices within BI delivery, including data validation testing, regression testing, and automated testing of reports, datasets, and semantic models.
  • Experience of working with both “business as usual” teams and “business change” teams.
  • Experience operating in Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and to engage, negotiate, influence and collaborate across the organisation, advocating Power BI adoption and promoting its benefits to business stakeholders.
  • Ability to explain data and technical concepts to a non-technical team or client audience.
  • Microsoft Fabric experience, including Data Factory.
  • Operated in a Private Equity environment or for a DFI.
  • Knowledge of Power Apps is an advantage.
