The Analytics & Insight team at BII is at the heart of our organisation\’s data-driven strategy, shaping how we track, report, and enhance our impact. Our team sits within the Impact Group and reports to the Chief Impact Officer. We partner with colleagues across the business to collect, manage, and analyse data, ensuring decisions are underpinned by robust, actionable insights. We also work on improving processes and systems to manage impact data, leveraging technology to generate better insights and create efficiencies for our clients and for ourselves. In addition, we provide assurance support by conducting internal checks on impact results and collaborating with external assurers to verify their accuracy. This ensures BII\\\’s impact reporting remains credible and aligned with our high standards.

Purpose

BII is seeking a Data Analyst to join our dynamic Analytics & Insight team, a group positioned at the heart of our organisation\’s data-driven strategy. This vital role offers a varied and engaging workload, providing the opportunity to work across all aspects of the team\\\’s functions as priorities shift throughout the year. As a Data Analyst, you will be instrumental in capturing, managing, and analysing impact data for more than 800 investee companies—work that ensures our impact reporting is both credible and actionable.

Your responsibilities will span fund reporting, strategic analysis, and assurance support, meaning you\\\’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across BII to deliver robust insights. Success in this position means upholding high standards of data quality and accuracy, while actively shaping the impact we make globally to support the organisation\\\’s objectives: Productive, Sustainable, and Inclusive growth. Responsibilities

The role is structured to offer a diverse and engaging workload across three core areas:

  • Fund Reporting for Impact Data ( 40%)
    Capture and manage impact performance data across BII\\\’s portfolio of over 800 investee companies, including indicators such as financial metrics, employment figures, customer reach, and geographic footprint from quarterly financial and ESG reports. Work with Investment and Impact teams to ensure data accuracy and completeness in the reporting system. Identify anomalies, maintain logs of missing or inconsistent data, and liaise with investees to resolve gaps. This data underpins BII\\\’s impact reporting and strategic decision-making.
  • Data Analysis for Strategic Reporting ( 30%)

    Support the Analytics & Insights Team in conducting high-quality Excel-based analysis using portfolio impact data. This analysis informs BII\\\’s Annual Review and other external reporting, helping shape strategic decisions and portfolio management. Contribute to internal performance tools to ensure insights are robust, actionable, and aligned with BII\\\’s development goals. Attention to detail and analytical rigour are essential as outputs support senior-level communications and planning.

Provide cover for the Data Assurance Executive during annual leave and peak periods, helping to maintain the integrity of BII\\\’s impact scoring. This includes internal assurance checks on new investments and collaboration with external assurers to verify that impact scores are accurate and evidence-based.

The candidate

  • Strong data collection and analytical capabilities are essential for gathering consistent and reliable impact data across a large and diverse portfolio.
  • Proven experience in analysing datasets to extract meaningful insights for strategic decisions and operational actions.
  • The Analyst must be highly self-motivated and able to maintain focus during extended periods working in spreadsheets and data systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and perseverance are critical, with significant time dedicated to retrieving, reviewing, and interpreting large volumes of data from varied sources including annual reports, financial statements, and impact documentation.
  • All data must be collected in line with standard definitions and procedures to ensure validity, consistency, and integrity across reporting outputs.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills are essential, with a preference for candidates experienced in automating analysis workflows.
  • Solid working knowledge of Power BI and Microsoft PowerPoint for data visualization and presentation.
  • Proven ability to input, validate, and analyse large datasets with precision and consistency.
  • Comfortable working with accounting terminology and financial documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to data issues.
  • Effective project management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with complex data platforms and systems used for enterprise-level reporting and analysis.
