Portsmouth Golf Course is one of Hampshire's busiest golf venues with an 18-hole course boasting fantastic views over The Solent. We also have a clubhouse which is home to our Bar & Restaurant area. Portsmouth Golf Course is part of Lex Leisure who operate 6 Golf Clubs within the UK.

Role

Deputy Head Greenkeeper - Portsmouth Golf Course. Full Time.

Duties

  • Deputising for the Head Greenkeeper in their absence
  • Preparation and maintenance of our 18-hole course, practice areas and general amenity areas
  • Assisting with leading and motivating a team with clarity and consistency
  • Support in coordinating the maintenance of machinery/equipment/irrigation and service contracts
  • Joint planning and decision-making on daily operations and long term strategy
  • Delivering high-quality playing surfaces across all areas
  • Assisting with managing the machine/equipment/buggy fleet to ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced
  • Hands-on involvement in mowing, spraying, irrigation and renovation works
  • Coordinating machinery care and safe systems of work
  • Help train, develop and motivate staff to continuously develop their technical skills
  • Health and Safety management
  • Some weekend cover on a rota basis

  • You’ll be someone who enjoys working closely with a Head Greenkeeper and contributing ideas

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Sports Turf Maintenance
  • Chemical Spraying qualifications are preferred
  • Chainsaw qualifications preferred but not essential
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of modern greenkeeping machinery
  • Knowledge of automated irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of all health and safety legislation relating to greenkeeping equipment and also chemical and waste handling
