Ormskirk Golf Club is one of Lancashire’s premier members’ clubs, founded in 1899. The Club has a proud history, having hosted Open Championship Qualifiers, the Carris Trophy, and various prestigious county and national events. With The Open returning to Royal Birkdale in 2026, Ormskirk is entering an exciting phase of development aimed at re‑establishing its place in the Open Qualifying conversation.
We seek an experienced, passionate, and forward‑thinking Assistant Greenkeeper to join our agronomy team. The Club has demonstrated a clear commitment to both course excellence and the professional development of our team, delivering significant enhancements including a brand‑new agronomy facility and investment in state‑of‑the‑art machinery.
The Role
Working as part of an experienced agronomy team and reporting to the Course Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the golf course to an exceptional standard throughout the year. This is a hands-on role suited to an enthusiastic individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for turf management.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and surrounding areas
- Operation of a range of turf care machinery
- Application of plant protection products in accordance with regulations (where qualified)
- Assisting with course improvement and renovation projects
- Chainsaw work including tree management and woodland maintenance (where qualified)
- Supporting the team in delivering the highest possible course presentation
- Following health, safety, and environmental best practices at all times
Essential Requirements
- Level 2 qualification in Sports Turf / Greenkeeping or equivalent
- Previous greenkeeping experience
- Strong knowledge of turf care practices and machinery
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends on a rota basis, and in varying weather conditions
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in Sports Turf / Greenkeeping or equivalent
- Valid spraying certificates (PA1, PA2, PA6 or equivalent)
- Chainsaw certification (CS30, CS31 units)
