Belton Park Golf Club, a private members club established in 1890 and located in Grantham, is seeking a Mechanic / Assistant to join their team. The position entails working outdoors and in the workshop, ideally for 38 hours, with a start time of 5:45 AM. Weekend work at overtime rates is required, with flexible scheduling. The successful applicant will be part of a team of eight, responsible for maintaining 240 acres of parkland. A keen eye for detail, high motivation, and a passion for delivering exceptional results are essential qualities. While knowledge of golf is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a program of routine maintenance for all machinery adhering to the manufacturer's guidelines.
- Maintain all equipment to the approved standard of use, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Prioritise work in conjunction with the golf course maintenance needs.
- Diagnose and repair all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Manage stock and onsite store of fast‑moving parts.
- Maintain accurate service records for all machinery.
- Operate Oxyacetylene, Arc and MIG welding, brazing and soldering work as required, conforming to health & safety regulations.
- Use cylinder‑grinding machines.
- Fabricate miscellaneous items to improve the efficiency of the golf course maintenance operation.
- Assist with golf course maintenance duties when required as well as being responsible for the machinery.
Greenkeeping Duties
- Complete a wide range of greenkeeping duties as required (training will be given).
- Operate a range of modern turf equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support seasonal and project work on the golf course, including renovations, drainage and construction.
Qualifications
- Experience in golf course machinery maintenance, land‑based engineering, or a similar mechanical/technical role within grounds, turf, or agricultural settings.
- Ideally Level 3 qualification or above in Land‑Based Technology or Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on specialist turf or golf course machinery.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, carry out, and record routine maintenance programmes in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Experience operating Oxyacetylene, Arc and MIG welding equipment, as well as brazing and soldering, in accordance with health & safety regulations.
- Knowledge and practical experience using cylinder‑grinding machinery.
- Experience fabricating parts or components to support machinery efficiency and course operations.
- Knowledge of specialist golf course equipment, including cutting units, utility vehicles, and irrigation system maintenance requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate service records, stock levels, and workshop documentation.
- Basic IT skills, including the ability to use maintenance logs, digital service records, or manufacturer software.
- Formal health & safety training, ideally NVQ Level 3, including safe use of horticultural chemicals and workshop safety procedures.
- Ability to prioritise workload in line with golf course maintenance needs and operational demands.
- A valid driving licence and relevant machinery experience are essential.
