At British Gypsum we are looking for a Mine Shift Manager to join our team based out of Birkshead Mine (Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria) You will report to the Mine Production Manager, managing the deployment of, and ensuring suitable supervision of, all personnel and equipment at the Mine. What you will be doing: To ensure the adequate supervision of all personnel at the mine To undertake responsibilities in a safe and economic manner in compliance with Mining legislation, Company Policy, and Managers Rules. Deployment of personnel and resources to safely meet the requirements of the mine To ensure that all contractors on site are supervised effectively. Ensure that all statutory shift reports are completed in accordance with mine regulations Identify training and development needs in the mine personnel and co-ordinate training activity as appropriate. Communicate safety and production instructions/information to mine teams as appropriate Ensure information is passed between shifts and senior mine management and safety requirements highlighted with appropriate action taken and/or planned Liaise with Surface Plant to ensure correct quality and quantity of rock is available for factory use or for external despatch Promote continuous improvement in the mining functions utilising WCM toolsWhat we are looking for in a Mine Shift Manager Experience in underground mining with applicable mining supervisory qualifications (e.g. Level 4 Diploma in Supervision of Underground Mining Activities or equivalent) Experience in people management Self-Motivation and initiative Good Communicator Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office programmes) Understanding of major hazards in a mining environment (Ground Control, Mine Ventilation etc.)Are British Gypsum and Saint-Gobain inclusive employers?
