About the role: As part of its ongoing development in dealing with safeguarding and disciplinary matters, British Gymnastics is establishing a Case Management Group (“CMG”). The CMG is established in order to provide monitoring, guidance and advice to the British Gymnastics Safeguarding Team and the Resolutions Team generally and to the Safeguarding Manager and Resolutions Manager in particular. In certain circumstances, the CMG will also make formal decisions on behalf of British Gymnastics. The intention is to provide greater levels of independence and independent experience to British Gymnastics’ decision-making processes across safeguarding and discipline.

British Gymnastics is now looking to appoint a number of individuals who can be called on to sit on the CMG as Independent Members and use their personal and professional skills, experience and judgment to provide advice and support decision making.

Key attributes

  • Essential:
    • Must be either a qualified solicitor or barrister with knowledge of sports law and/or human rights and/or safeguarding and/or criminal law; or
    • Have a professional background of working in safeguarding; or
    • Have a demonstrable knowledge of gymnastics and how gymnastics is operated and governed in Great Britain.

    • Ability to analyse and review evidence and demonstrable history of doing so.
    • Ability to provide advice and make decisions within a safeguarding and disciplinary context.
    • Experience of having worked in an oversight body or similar role providing advice and making decisions.
    • Experience of drafting decisions.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience of chairing meetings.
    • Experience of working in a sports environment.

Additional information: You should not have worked or been a contractor for British Gymnastics within the last three years. There will be an interview for all applicants selected onto the shortlist and those applicants will be notified of potential interview dates by email. Anyone appointed to the role will be expected to undertake induction training and any other training identified by British Gymnastics. CMG meetings will contain confidential and sensitive information. Individuals who are appointed to the role must observe confidentiality provisions as set out by British Gymnastics. The standard position will be that CMG meetings will take place on a fortnightly basis; however, there will be occasions where more regular or ad hoc meetings will be required. Meeting packs will be provided in reasonable time in advance of all meetings, and all CMG members will be required to have read all information provided. British Gymnastics intends to appoint a number of individuals to the role to create a panel in order to ensure there is always availability for CMG meetings. As a result, successful individuals will not sit on every CMG. British Gymnastics will ask CMG members for their availability to sit for a CMG meeting in reasonable time prior to the meeting. The responsibility of chairing each CMG meeting will rest with one of the Independent Members.
