The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

The main purpose of the role is to support the Pathway Science Team in the delivery of Sport Science across the Performance Pathway, and in the scoping and development of performance or sport science related projects. They will be required to possess specific knowledge and experience of supporting young developing athletes, and have an ability to work closely with coaches to integrate practice and experience in delivering project-based work.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Delivery of age and stage appropriate Sport Science through the Live, Train, Compete Curriculum to Performance Pathway Programmes aimed at gymnasts.
  • Support the delivery of the Live, Train, Compete Curriculum to gymnasts primarily on the Acrobatic, Aerobic, Double Mini Trampoline, Tumbling, Team Gym & Rhythmic disciplines, including embedding performance behaviours (e.g., warm‑up, recovery, fuelling) and workshop delivery of educational content such as strength and conditioning, nutrition and performance lifestyle.
  • Support the Pathway Science team and coaches to plan annual delivery of Sport Science across the pathway programmes.
  • Liaise and co‑coordinate delivery by other staff where required delivery is outside their field of expertise.
  • Deliver educational workshops to coaches and parents when required.
  • Support with the continual embedding of Reform 25 policies and associated resources across the performance pathway.
  • Support the scoping and resource development of performance or sport science related projects.
  • With the support of the Pathway Science team, liaise with the wider Performance team to identify, scope, and deliver selected sport science or performance projects.
  • Develop supporting sports science or targeted performance project resources (e.g., documents, infographics, explainer videos, social media) when required.

The Person

Roles will include working some evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise

  • Undergraduate (preferably Postgraduate) sport science qualification.
  • Evidence of supporting young athletes (e.g., teaching or coaching).
  • MSc or recognised qualification (CSCS, ASCC) in sports science or related area; strength and conditioning or physiology areas preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic sports science principles.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently within a multidisciplinary Sports Science context.
  • Experience of creating and delivering engaging educational content across a range of situations.
  • Ability to engage with young athletes to develop good performance behaviours.
  • Strong communication skills for listening, engaging, building relationships, attending and contributing to meetings, and producing and delivering presentations and resources.
  • Basic IT skills for reporting, administration and developing engaging presentations/resources.

The holder will interact with parents, coaches and gymnasts with equal ease, adapting style and methods to suit the audience, and will collaborate with other departments and partners (e.g., UKSI) to influence resources.

Shaping Direction

The holder will be proactive, using initiative to plan and deliver Sport Science within the Performance Pathway, remain cognisant of future trends, influence and adapt accordingly, and maximise available resources.

Developing Solutions

Analyze and resolve problems/issues on a regular basis in relation to local delivery and departmental plans. Use initiative and be creative, seeking new ways of improving services, supporting new opportunities, advocating/raising the profile of opportunities, ensuring consistency across programmes and clear alignment, collating data and feedback for ongoing development.

Decision Making

Make decisions regarding own work programme and provide recommendations on specific projects, improvements to Performance Pathway programmes, and solutions for challenges and issues.

Communicating

Inform and obtain information from colleagues/stakeholders and establish effective, meaningful business relationships with a broad range of partners and organisations. Possess communication skills for listening, engaging, relationship building, leading/attending meetings, and producing/delivering presentations and resources. Possess diplomacy and negotiation skills for dealing with both internal and external business clients.
