Barton Stud is a leading Thoroughbred breeding establishment with a reputation for producing high‑quality mares and foals for both domestic and international markets. We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands‑on Broodmare Manager to take responsibility for the management, health, and welfare of our broodmare band, ensuring first‑class standards of care and breeding performance in line with industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily care and supervision of all broodmares, in‑foal mares, and foals.
- Oversee the foaling season, including night watch supervision and post‑foaling care.
- Ensure all mares and foals receive the highest level of husbandry, nutrition, and health care.
- Liaise closely with veterinary teams to monitor pregnancies, perform routine scanning, and manage reproductive issues.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and detailed foaling, veterinary, and breeding records in accordance with Weatherbys and Thoroughbred Breeders Association (TBA) requirements.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
- Train and support stud staff involved in mare and foal care.
- Maintain a strong culture of professionalism, welfare, and safety across all operations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Uphold all stud health and biosecurity protocols.
- Ensure compliance with TBA, Weatherbys, and DEFRA regulations regarding horse identification, movement, and welfare.
- Coordinate farrier, veterinary, and nutritional programmes.
Essential Requirements
- Experience in Thoroughbred broodmare and foaling management at a professional level.
- Comprehensive understanding of equine reproduction and neonatal care.
- Proven ability to handle mares and foals calmly and safely.
- Excellent organisational and record‑keeping skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Flexibility to work unsociable hours during foaling and breeding seasons.
- Full UK driving licence.
